A new poll shows the presidential race tied with Arizona Republican John McCain and Democrat Barack Obama both getting 42 percent of the vote. The CBS News poll was conducted Monday through Wednesday, before McCain running-mate Sarah Palin's speech focusing on domestic energy production, preservation of tax cuts and criticism of Obama. The poll surveyed more than 800 voters nationwide. The previous CBS poll gave Obama an 8 percentage-point lead. New polls are expected Friday.
